The
services offered by Horizon Composites are unique. There are many facilities worldwide which offer consultancy
and/or research and development services but often they cannot go beyond this
point. With many years of experience in developing production processes at pilot plant scale, Horizon can take on
these tasks and further implement to production at the shop floor.
When an organisation
is near the point of introducing a new component to a product or a new product to market, Horizon is able to
react quickly, giving the customer a rapid response to the problem. Horizon
personnel are all multi-skilled with an in-depth understanding of the engineering problems associated with scaling up
production. We are geared to rapid response in that the company is virtually self-contained, subcontracting less
than 10% of our requirements. This means that the majority of projects
are carried out in-house so that very little time is lost between successive operations.
Horizon
has a 300m2 workshop area that can be used to bring a process
to pilot scale and demonstrate the production process The facilities include ball and vibro-energy milling, mixing,
vibration casting, drying and firing up to 1750C. Components can also be fired under nitrogen up to 900C. The facility
is far more than a laboratory, for example components weighing 350 kg and pre-production runs comprising significant
numbers of parts have been achieved.
